One of the best parts of getting to be an attending author at conventions like @wildandwindybookevent is meeting authors that I’ve admired before I started my writing journey. I fangirl hard and have zero regrets about it!

@willowwintersshouldbewriting + @authorrachelrener aren’t just incredible indie authors - but they are both unapologetically and authentically themselves in their own unique way, which is rare in a world that tries to confine everything to neat little boxes.

Being able to meet them both in person last weekend was the cherry on top to an amazing event!

I was so honored to join @juliaconnorsauthor @katmizera @sinclairkellyauthor and @siena.trap.books - the conversation was free flowing and the synergy unmatched.

Not to mention - @tor_thom was the most fantastic moderator!

The icing on the cake - not just growing up 30 minutes away and falling in love with hockey in Chicago - but working literally down the street from the convention center with the Chicago Wolves. Truly a surreal, full circle experience.

I started writing when I was at a really confusing time in my life. What I didn’t expect is how much writing would heal me. Things I haven’t thought much about in recent years bubble up without me realizing it. It’s my favorite part of being able to share stories with difficult topics that show readers that they aren’t alone 🩵

I can’t wait to continue to add mental health tropes into new projects.

A reading log pre #GoodReads from middle school me.

I had the biggest smile on my face when I found this going through old boxes. Middle school Alison kept track of books, pages read, and even rated them (every Harry Potter book has a “wickedly good” rating).

Reading brought so much joy into my life back then. I loved escaping into the worlds. The Among the Hidden series was always my favorite. I even have a character named from a side character in that series since it played such a big role in who I am as a reader and writer.

If I told that 12 year old girl who was so unhappy with the world that I would write books that people could escape into, she wouldn’t believe me.

💜MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS MONTH💜

The wonderful and talented @kristen_granata posted a May challenge for mental awareness month with posts every Friday throughout May.

I had big plans for a creative beautiful post with snippets of my story and stats around mental health. But my mental health took a toll this week, so that had to take a back seat.

But what doesn’t have to take a back seat is still sharing part of my story.

I constantly need to remind myself having depression or anxiety doesn’t define who I am - it’s part of me. Just like being a romance reader and a dog mom are.

My debut novel has themes of depression and anxiety. I could go on a massive rant about my experience.

They are such important topics. But something else took bigger priority for me when writing this story. Domestic violence.

Meeting authors that have been a huge part of my life as a reader but even more so as an author was something I knew would happen, but not something I expected my heart to need so badly. The epic journeys, the advice, the inspiration, and the true kindness of these women are unmatched.

@rebeccayarros - Fourth Wing is the book that got me back into reading. I found bookstagram. I found indie authors. Without RY, I wouldn’t have found the courage and tenacity to become an author myself💛

@brynne_weaver - She is unapologetically beautiful, corky self 💚 The fact that she is a HUGE trad published but still focuses on doing what she loves and sharing her stories with the world through publishing indie is incredible

@jennifer_l_armentrout - one of the top five authors I look up to. Her impact on romantasy and romance is beyond awe-inspiring. #apollycon wouldn’t exist without her. And I wouldn’t be obsessed with Nyktos if it wasn’t for her 😅🩵

@jrwardauthor - one of the most entertaining and genuine humans I’ve ever met. She was the most encouraging and inspirational author during her panels and I know I’m not the only indie author she made a huge lasting impact on last weekend 🖤

Mental health representation is becoming more and more common in books - this is something we should CELEBRATE!

A Light in the Flame by @jennifer_l_armentrout does an incredible job at portraying anxiety (and it’s just a fricken good book).

As someone who’s had exactly for as long as I can remember, this book has really stuck with me. JLA depicts anxiety in a non trigger way (for me personally). She shows how anxiety is just a small piece of who the character is. She also shows the character processing and working through her anxiety. It makes me feel so understood.

Talking about mental health is something we should continue to embrace! I can’t wait to read more books and write more books with mental health tropes!

I am working on (way too many) new things and I am so freaking excited. I’ve got a book in editing. I’m writing two other books. I’m going to conferences and events. Trying to balance it all with a hectic day job and life in general.

I’m not going to lie, 2026 has been a rough year. But there is soooo much goodness coming. I can feel it!
